DATA PRIVACY & CONTROL
Request data deletion
Dearwhile (Android package: com.memora.memories) enables users to request deletion of their personal data. You can delete specific data while keeping your account, or request that all associated data be deleted, directly in the app or via the web request options below.
Looking to permanently delete your entire account and all associated data instead? Visit our dedicated Account Deletion page.
Option 1: Delete specific data directly in the app
You can manage and delete individual categories of data in Dearwhile at any time:
- Photos and videos (moments): Open any memory, select the moment you want to delete, tap the options menu, and choose Delete moment. The media file is queued for immediate deletion from our cloud storage.
- Memories and albums: Open the memory options menu and select Move to Trash. Memories in Trash are automatically purged after 30 days or can be permanently deleted immediately from the Trash sheet.
- Notes and story comments: Tap on any note or comment you contributed to delete it from the memory discussion.
- Saved contacts: Open the People sheet to view and remove personal contacts you have saved.
- Device push tokens: Disable notifications in your device Settings or sign out of your account to disconnect your device push token.
Option 2: Web or email data deletion request
If you no longer have access to the app, wish to delete data without installing the app, or want to request deletion of specific categories of data across our servers:
- Send an email to [email protected] with the subject Dearwhile Data Deletion Request.
- Include the email address registered with your Dearwhile account (Google or Apple sign-in email).
- Specify which data you want deleted (e.g., all uploaded photos and videos, specific memories, location data, saved contacts, or all associated personal data).
- We will send a quick verification email to your registered address to confirm account ownership before fulfilling the request.
- Once confirmed, the requested data will be permanently deleted from our production database and Cloudflare R2 media storage within 30 days, and you will receive a confirmation email.
Data types eligible for deletion
- Uploaded media: Original full-resolution photos, videos, and preview thumbnails stored in Cloudflare R2.
- Memory content: Album titles, dates, descriptions, custom locations, and notes.
- Profile and contact data: Display name, profile avatar, and saved email contacts.
- Technical identifiers: Device push notification tokens and session records.
Data retention and policies
- Shared memories: If you contributed moments or notes to a memory owned by another user, those contributions remain in that shared album for the remaining members, but all identifying author information is permanently detached and anonymized upon deletion. You can also delete your individual contributions prior to submitting a broader deletion request.
- Operational logs: Transient infrastructure server logs (such as error reports and access timestamps) may be retained for up to 30 days solely for security diagnostics, abuse prevention, and legal compliance, after which they are automatically purged.
- No advertising retention: We do not sell or monetize personal data, and no deleted data is retained for commercial or marketing purposes.
